Community Reads are a great way for our community to share the love and fun of reading. Each Spring and Fall, we focus on a family friendly book that everyone can enjoy. During the Community Read, we offer several different programs around the themes of the book for all ages. Sign up for our newsletter to stay informed of upcoming Community Reads and other programs.
The Hobbit, by J.R.R. Tolkein
This Spring, join Bilbo Baggins on the adventure of a lifetime as we read The Hobbit by J.R.R Tolkein. Bilbo Baggins is a hobbit who enjoys a comfortable, unambitious life, rarely traveling any farther than his pantry or cellar. But his contentment is disturbed when the wizard Gandalf and a company of dwarves arrive on his doorstep one day to whisk him away on an adventure. They have launched a plot to raid the treasure hoard guarded by Smaug the Magnificent, a large and very dangerous dragon. Bilbo reluctantly joins their quest, unaware that on his journey to the Lonely Mountain he will encounter both a magic ring and a frightening creature known as Gollum.
Books are available on a first come, first served basis starting March 1. One copy per family.

The Graveyard Book, by Neil Gaiman
This Fall, it takes a graveyard to raise a child. Join Bod in some spooky adventures as we read Neil Gaiman’s The Graveyard Book. Nobody Owens, known as Bod, is a normal boy. He would be completely normal if he didn’t live in a graveyard, being raised by ghosts, with a guardian who belongs to neither the world of the living nor the dead. There are adventures in the graveyard for a boy—an ancient Indigo Man, a gateway to the abandoned city of ghouls, the strange and terrible Sleer. But if Bod leaves the graveyard, he will be in danger from the man Jack—who has already killed Bod’s family.
Books are available on a first come, first served basis starting September 1. One copy per family. Check out our calendar for all our spooky, graveyard fun programs in September and October.
